About the event

Apoorva Mudgal and Ria Modak bring original compositions of Hindustani poetry in the ghazal, kaafi and qawwali format to a living room in Goa : up close, personal and all acoustic with a side of warm chai.

About the artists :

Apoorva Mudgal sings and composes Hindustani poetry charged with political and personal truths. Her serene vocals imbued with lingering emotional nuance make for transcendental performances of Urdu ghazal, Hindavi folk, and Punjabi Sufi kalam. She has trained under Ustad Abu Muhammad of the Fareed Ayaz Qawwal 'Dilli bacchon ka gharana'.

Ria Modak is a historian, guitarist, composer, and translator from New York. She is a PhD candidate at Brown University, where she works on language movements and cultural politics in Western India. Her music explores the intersections of Hindustani, flamenco, and jazz traditions.
